Appalachian Plateau
Worn away by erosion, this is the smallest region. Located in the Northwest corner of Georgia. This is the home of Lookout Mountain. There are lots of coal fields and iron ore mines. This region is made up of old mountains.
ridge and valley
Lower elevation than the Appalachian Plateau. Low open valleys and narrow ridges. Soil good for forest, pastures, and crops. Dalton is the carpet capital of the world because of the Fertile Farmland.
Blue ridge
This is where the highest point in Georgia is located ( Brasstown Bald ). Located in Northeastern Georgia. Stretches to Virginia. Has lots of waterfalls and rapid streams. Had lots of gold in the 1800's.
Piedmont
Largest populated region. Rolling hills. Lots of red clay caused by iron ore in the soil. Chattahoochee River flows through this region. Stone Mountain is a popular location here. Has Granite mines.
Coastal plains
Largest region in size. 100 miles of coastline. Was covered by the Atlantic Ocean. Low, Flat, marshland. ( Okefenokee Swamp )
Inner coastal plains
Is a major agriculture region with Vidalia Onions, peanuts, pecans, and corn.
Outer coastal plains
Soil not good for agriculture. Trees provide naval stones and pulp production. Deep harbors and Barrier Islands.
Okefenokee Swamp
Covers 681 square miles which makes it the largest swamp in North America. Freshwater wetland.
Barrier lands
Protects the mainland from wind, sand, and water that cause erosion. 18 islands.
Fall line
Where hilly land meets the coastal plain. Runs from Columbus through Macon to Augusta.
